The World Poker Tour has launched the WPT Foundation, a body that will strive to make the world a better place by using its influence to campaign for positive change.
Those over at poker net note how the emphasis will start on human rights organisations which try to alleviate problems like torture and government suppression all over the world. Other programmes that will benefit from the Foundation will be those involved in poverty, hunger and environmental issues.
The WPT intends to donate an initial $100,000 to the Foundation, as well as provide resources and media coverage. The tagline being used is WPT: Playing for a Better World. Luckily, putting on poker tournaments is a great way of raising money for charity, and the WPT intends to take full advantage of this.
On March 11 the first event will take place at the SLS Beverley Hills Hotel. Famous attendees so far announced include Woody Harrelson, Will Ferrell and Jeremy Piven. As well as a bucket load of celebrities on show, poker pros will be on hand to provide players with poker lessons; an invaluable experience!
The raffle will feature items including a helicopter tour of Los Angeles, the chance to join FOX Sports at an NFL game and many more.
The WPT Foundation is just one example of how poker is making a real difference in charitable work all over the world.
