Gregory Ayers Wins Week Three

  • Today 27 players came out to compete in week three of the PokerNations Free Poker League.

Dan Violette aka Kravinmorhead took an early lead, busting Matt aka duhhmattman.  He was moved to a new table and proceeded to take chips off of Anthony Martino aka ajmartino.  On a flop of J93 Dan bet and Anthony called.

The turn was an 8 and it went bet-call again.  The river brought a T making the board J938T and Dan bet again and was called by Anthony.  Dan turned over the 97 for a rivered straight while Anthony held 9T and was 3-outered when he made two pair that gave his opponent the win.  Anthony saw his chip stack drop from 3,000 to 1,300 very early in play.

Meanwhile at another table Ronin1085 ran his set of 6's into the set of Kings held by Gregory Ayers aka gjecat sending him to an early rail.

With blinds at 10/20 ajmartino would triple up when his KQ was up against the 57 of lustyln and the 69 of kravinmorhead.  On a board of KJ5 with two diamonds there was a bet and two callers.  The turn brought the 7 of spades, putting another flush draw on the board.

ajmartino checked, lustyln bet 200, kravinmorhead called and ajmartino shoved all-in.  Surprisingly both opponents called and the river was a King.  ajmartino won the main pot and lustyln picked up the side pot.

By the first break an entire table had been eliminated, leaving 18 players with an average stack of 4,500 chips.  The leaders at this stage:

    Lenskone (12,920)
    gjecat (9,460)
    gbobu (6,835)

Shortly after the break ends, lustyln tries to run a bluff after limping K2 offsuit in early position.  Up against ajmartino who has flopped a full house from the blinds with a board of 88T, lustyln is sent packing and ajmartino builds his stack.

Jennifer Martino aka sadistickitt raises the CO with pocket Jacks.  Chato in the blinds wakes up with pocket Aces and reraises, sadistickitt shoves all-in and finds no 2-outer, and chato claims a victim.

Lenskone loses the chip lead with QQ against the pocket 9's of gjecat on a 9-high flop.  The pot size is 21,000+ and catapults the cat into the top of the chip count!

Tuscon_Jack is shorter stacked and shoves from the button with AK.  ajmartino has AT in the big blind and makes the call.  The AK holds and jack receives a much needed double up!

When the final table is reached here is the view:

By the time the next break hits only 7 players remain and gjecat is chip leader with 22,000.  It isn't long before Chato throws a wrench into the works, taking the chip lead with his pocket Kings against the AT of spades held by tpttommy on a Ten-high flop when the turn brings Tommy the nut flush draw.

Chato sits on over 25,000 while gjecat holds firm in 2nd place with 21K and ajmartino in 3rd with 17K.

Tuscon_jack once again makes a stand, this time with KQ.  Chato takes a shot to try and bust him holding pocket 3's, but a Queen-high flop holds and Jack hangs on for a little longer.

Ricco Tubbs raises to 900 and gbobu comes over the top all-in, but doesn't have enough chips for fold equity.  It's AT of hearts against pocket 5's, the pair holds and gbobu doubles.

Chato crushes Tuscon Jacks third double up attempt with KJ of diamonds against KQ offsuit, when he flops top pair and turns the flush.

The very next hand Ricco Tubbs sends gbobu packing and four-handed play begins!

ajmartino loses an 11,000 chip pot to gjecat when they both make a straight on a board of 79TJ but ajmartino holds 82 against gjecats Q8 for the higher straight.

The cat isn't finished playing with its prey.  ajmartino raises preflop with pocket 7's, the cat smooth-calls with pocket 9's.  The flop is Q92.  ajmartino bets, the cat raises and ajmartino shoves and finds he's drawing pretty close to dead and is sent home in 4th place.

gjecat loves his pocket 9's, as he sends Ricco Tubbs home on a 7-high flop when Ricco holds A7 and gjecat has the overpair, which rivers another set!

Chato tries to repeat his first place from last week, but his KJ is no good against the AK of gjecat on an AKx flop.  Another Ace hits the river and gjecat scores a victory!

There's only one week left in this months leaderboard and it's still anyones game.  While ajmartino leads it, he's promised to have the prize go to 2nd place on the leaderboard should he manage to hold the top spot for May.  Both gjecat and chato are within striking distance, and another league series starts again in June!
