My Thursday Night Poker Game

  •  So as I'm watching the Vikings lose to the Bears and still recovering from shoveling the blizzard off my sidewalks and parking lot I thought I would write about our last week poker game since I haven't written a note in a while.
This last week was like old school game with the likes of Dan Haynes, Dan Henry, and Roo returning to play.  We haven't seen anything since spring.  Next thing you we will see Tom, Malcolm, and Charles show up.  We had 14 players both games, you can tell winter was coming.  I'm sure the rest of the year we will be seeing fields of a dozen to 18 players on Thursday nights.
The first game we had a new player join, and Tate would have the Bounty on his head.  Joel and I thought he could even take it down.  New players in our game usually do well because we have to figure them out. Even Dan Henry would make his presence known with his loose aggressive style right at the beginning of the game.  Dan Haynes would take out Tate at the final table.  I went out at the final table early when I shoved with Ace King and got called by Stephen's pocket queens that held up.  Jason F would go out in 4th place.  Stephen would make use of my chips getting him to 3rd place.  So the game would be withh heads-up master the Wookie and Dan Haynes.  Dan would take 2nd place, not bad since he has been away from poker since March.  And of course we let the Wookie win!!!

The next game I would have the Bounty on my head.  I had dreams of Call of Duty Black Ops in my head with the victory.  At the beginning I was card dead but right when I needed it I started getting cards and grabbed the chip lead and started to take control of my table.  But then Tate would knock out 2 players at our table and we would combine tables for the final 8 players.  And then the worse thing would happen to me.  I had to watch Jeremy run over everyone at the table and see him knock out 5 of the final 8 players, I would only knock out Heshima.  I was sure I was going to get heads up with someone.  I just didn't think Jeremy would get all those chips.  Dan Haynes would go out in 4th place and the new guy Tate would take 3rd place.  So here is Jeremy sitting with huge chip lead over me.  I won a couple of blinds heads up but Jeremy was still hitting hands and it wasn't long before he took down the game.  Congrats.  I had to rent Call of Duty for the weekend at blockbuster versus buying it.  I know my girls will get it for me for Christmas.

So the Jackpot Bounty is at $134 and the Tournament of Champions is at $684

Player of the Year and Tournament of Champions Board
Jason Z  has 71 points, the Wookie looks good to grab the title this year with 7 wins and 10 second place finishes, plus a leader in Bounty kills of 9, and another 6 3rd place finishes

JD has 52 points, and he is going to be challenged for 2nd place since there are 5 of us within striking distance.  JD has 9 wins which is the best, but only 3 2nd and 3rd place finishes each.  JD either wins or is out in flames.

Joel has 47 points, Joel has played been solid all year with 7 wins and 13 other money finishes.  Joel has had some bad luck with certain players, like Jason Z, Jasonz F, JD, and Beth.  They just seem to get lucky on him a lot post flop.

Stephen has 47 points, not Stephen's best year but I would back him as a pro any day if I had the money to do so.  He has 17 money finishes but I don't think he ever misses a final table.

Jeremy has 46.5 points, Jeremy has had a great year, another player that makes final tables almost always.  Also with 17 money finishes with 8 3rd place finishes.

I have 45 points, I'm chasing the Wookie with the most 2nd place finishes of 9 this year.  My problem is I'm usually not knocking out the 3rd place finisher before we get heads up.  I blame the Step tournaments on UltimateBet, I just need to take 2nd place to advance and I've been doing that a lot to build up for next years WSOP.

Jason F has 41 pints, probably the last person I give a shot to make it to 2nd place.  But basketball season could get in the way for him.  Jason has 15 money finishes.

Beth has 38 points with 13 money finishes

In 9th place is Chris with 30 points, he could be in trouble with Heshima right behind him, but Heshima will have to put in some work and show up for both games just not one game on Thursday nights with 27 points he doesn't want to miss the Tournament of Champions.

And now with Dan Haynes and Dan Henry returning they could both make a run for the 9th spot, or even Micah could do it.

I think it will be a fun time to see who can finish in 2nd place for the Player of the Year and who will finish in 9th place for the Tournament of Champions.
