  Nikki - I have only read a few of your posts and it's great that you are here asking for advice. If you are just starting out, the best thing you can do is go slowly and READ as much as you can.
  
  I have been playing poker for over 4 years and still like the .02/.05 NL tables. I am very protective of my poker account. I put my deposit on FT over two years ago and have not had to add any more money yet.
  
  I liked Harrington's books, too. Another author I liked when I first started to learn was Ed Miller.
  
  Keep coming back and asking questions, talking about poker with others is a great way to learn!!

  The reason I recommended perhaps she work at limit poker is that it might keep her out of trouble. I recall her trying to play 24 or something like that previously.
  
  by playing limit poker she can protect her bankroll a bit better, and will be less inclined to try running bluffs and playing less than premium hands because she can't fall into the trap of playing the bully when she should be learning the fundamentals.
  
  Learn to walk before you hop into the water and swim. So ideally she'd be focused on playing stronger holdings and getting accustomed to value-betting and not trying to play too fancy.

  That is a great point Anthony, limit poker protects the weaker player with fixed bets so that they can't lose there entire stack on one hand. But make sure you read something on limit hold'em first because the game is a little different in strategy from NL hold'em. Generally you need to be much more selective with your starting hands because drawing hands (medium and low pocket pairs, suited connectors) are not nearly as profitable in limit.

  I agree with not trying to play fancy -- could hurt the bankroll a lot. as we all know, Patience can be key to any poker game, especially in tournies (maybe even more-so in cash games) hard to say.
  
  And of course position play gets factored in. Not really sure how far along she is yet. But I do agree it's best for the bankroll to be cautious. and never move up until you are consistantly doing well at a level.
  
  And if she starts playing live, there's no shame in staying at the lower levels until she gets her bearings -- that take time for everyone. and that learning curve is different for everyone.
  
  So shame in that either -- we all learn differently.

  Disclaimer: I am going to make statements, but they are not meant to sound like I know what I'm doing..Just commenting on statements made here.
  
  1. I've played Limit on FT. Bodog doesn't have limit so I play the .02/05 NL games. I've been playing a lot of freeroll tourneys and a ton of SNG (doing good in SNG's).
  
  2. I always play premium hands, but have been playing broadways/rags suited (nothing below a six). I need to expand my hand a bit. Yes, I'm taking it slow, but waiting for the perfect hand, I'll be waiting forever.
  
  3. I fold about 80% of my hands.
  
  4. I'm still not understanding, but getting there on calculating my odds. The game goes to fast for me to think. I really need help with this.
  
  5. Still not getting the bankroll. PokerGuruBlog said something about 40 buys for NL100..I apologize but I don't understand what that means. Break it down in lame man's terms for me.
  
  6. I've gained a lot of knowledge and playing so much better (winning money better), but i know I'm still learning to fly.

  If the buyin for a game is $100 then you multiply that by the 40 to arrive at the bankroll recommendation (i.e. $4,000)
  
  the idea with proper bankroll management is that you want to provide yourself with a sufficient enough roll that variance will not cause you to go bust. While there's never a guarantee, the guidelines recommended generally are reliable to keep most players in the game and not having to reload.
