Lost Series Finale Tonight

Anyone watching Lost? ***********SPOILERS*************

I'm looking forward to seeing them wrap this series up and answer a number of questions.

Right now I'm a bit disappointed with how the series is ending. Feels like they just rushed through a ton of deaths (and the way that they killed off Jin and Kwan where she was like "go, save yourself!" and his "I won't leave without you!" was super cheesy and cliche')

Also feels like they rushed Jack into the position of being the new Jacob.

And "the light" that Jack has to protect is still a bit too damned ambiguous.

As for The Man In Black, is it really him since we saw his skeleton along with his mother in the caves? Or is the MIB/Smoke Monster just "something else" in Jacobs brothers form and now in Locke's form?

I believe the smoke monster is the MIB but he can take the form of any person that is dead. He just took the form of himself the majority of the time. Now he has taken the form of Locke.

Well, I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the "big reveal". Since I'm pretty sure myself and tons of people have theorized for years now that the "survivors" were "lost souls" that needed to be "put to rest" and were kinda stuck in a limbo.

The producers swore up and down that "no one got it right" or something along those lines. I was glad that Hugo at least got to play the role of Jacob and they didn't keep things too predictable (i.e. with Jack in that role for a long time)

But still, kinda lackluster. They threw up all these curtains of illusion and all these red herrings that didn't really matter to give us a pretty simple ending. At least the ride was enjoyable.

i actually watched it -- and I stopped watching after the second season. It was so appearant even in the beginning that's what it was. It was just surposed to be a long mini-series. then it got ratings, and folks got greedy.

so after not watching for 4 seasons it was quite easy to catch up -- the ending wasn't bad -- but known all along.

My issue with the ending was that is was uninspired, unoriginal, unimaginative and there weren't any real surprises.

They built us up with all these mysteries and questions, and provided a big letdown in the end.

Anyone watch Jimmy Kimmel Live with their "alternate endings"? :P

Bunch of people crash onto an island, brought there by magical/spiritual being Jacob to replace him (screw the collateral damage of other lives being fucked up for this selfish purpose)

Insert tons of mysteries, red herrings and various questions that will never be answered in a satisfying way.

Que the finale where we find that all the time hopping to an alternate reality where everyone is happy-go-lucky and living their lives off the island, is just a made-up limbo/purgatory of sorts so they could all "find" one another again before "moving on" (i.e. resting in peace and transitioning to the next phase post-death)

A great ride, but woefully disappointing ending.

I thought the final episode was really good. As far as I'm concerned this was probably one of the most difficult shows ever to tie up and I felt they did an admiral job closing the show.

If by an "admiral job closing the show" you mean completely ignoring 6 years worth of red herrings and mysteries they threw up that half their fanbase expected to receive some closure on, then yes.

The island itself, and all the mysteries surrounding it represented a "character" on the show that I felt was left woefully unexplained.

The issue with why women couldn't carry a pregnancy through without death as the result wasn't answered. Exactly what the island was, what the light was, how "evil men" knew to search for the evil light and how they would put it out and that would spell destruction for all mankind, what the protector of the island really was (i.e. they can heal people, make them walk again, etc) and so on and so forth.

They threw up a shit ton of things that many expected explanations on, and the writers took the easy way out with the whole purgatory/limbo line

They must have lost the orignal writers and then came up with this lame ending!

I actually liked the ending, and watched the first couple seaons. and figured that's what's going on.

I'd be more angry that they milked it like they did.

From my recollection, it was only surpoed to be a season long mini-series -- then the ratings got huge -- then they fixed it until it was broke.

I like the idea that they left somethings unanswered and to the imagination of the viewers. I think the producer/writers of Lost would be doing a disservice to the loyal viewers by answering all the questions.
If you could go back in time and not watch the 120+ hours of Lost would you?

No, the ride was definitely enjoyable, but the aftertaste, meh.

I agree they shouldn't answer everything, but I think they threw up way too many mysteries that they never really had an answer for. I and many others were drawn in by these mysteries, and to have them all go ignored at the end seemed like an easy out for the writers, like they didn't want to do any work to answer things.

I don't think it is that they wanted to take the easy way out and not do the work. I think they just wanted to leave mysteries out there.
I mean how tough would it be to have Juliet say "The reason children conceived on the island die is because of 'the incident' the amount of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the island causes a miscarriage(my theory).

Hi. Never saw the show but just hearing bits here n there and sorta keeping an ear to the ground for the end to hear, second hand, what went on. Soooooooo...these castaway lames that crashed on this island basically spent 6 years immersed in all a this drama just to realize that they hadn't been among the living from jump street and that the island, not really an island at all, was actually Ricardo Montalban's fantasy of what is purgatory?

the "Lost" name is the key -- that's why Jack was the last to go. He was the helper. they were all just lost souls.

Incorrect. My understanding is thus:

The plane crash happened. The survivors were alive while on the island, but the island was "magical/spiritual" and so all the strange things that happened there (Locke walking again, Richard living forever, the smoke monster, etc) all were real.

The whole purgatory/limbo line comes in after the survivors set off the nuclear device on the island. That's when the alternate lives for them that we see (them off the island, hooked up with people they didn't hook up with on the island, having children they didn't originally have, etc) was all fake and when they were dead.

This alternate reality is a place they all created after death so they could meetup with everyone they knew from their time on the island, so they could then "move on" or "let go" and proceed to the afterlife.

While in this limbo/purgatory they don't realize they are dead or remember the events on the island, until Desmond travels around helping everyone to remember. Once they do realize the truth, they all meet in a church and shake hands and hug and smile and "move on"

Aaaah the nuclear device...lol. Oh well, sure, now there's a little plot detail that might make a difference, indeed!. So, after the nuclear device, that the survivors had been, somehow, excluded from the ranks of the un-living from that point, going forward, was gonna be any kind of climactic revelation in the finale, how? lol! Apparently - no way! - so not the reason d'etre of the finale as opposed to being an emotional round-up for the characters & fans. OK! Think I got it: So the whole she-bang was a pre-determined event which required Jacob, who, disguised as a mild mannered magical/spiritual being but in reality was a megalomaniacal, middle-management deity-dickhead, to set in motion by assembling this particular group of people and leading them to this particular spot whereby their measly, inconsequential, mortal lives could then be, conveniently, snuffed out via the ol' setting-off-of-the-nuclear-device-plot-twist-trick in order to attain the higher order of a more meaningful purpose in the big picture scheme of the universe! Basically. Dang! Almost makes me wish I had watched an episode or two of American Idol or maybe Dancing with the Stars, even.
