The Poker Nations Team is giving 3 free $20 entries into the Poker Gives Charity Event held on Full Tilt Poker.

You can find all the information about this event here.

2 regular Poker Nations members will be lucky enough to win an entry and 1 from the mods /community team as a thank you for all your hard work!

HOW REGULAR MEMBERS QUALIFY (2 WINNERS)

Either:

1. Write a new blog (in your own words, no copy/pasting other content) related to poker somehow (a trip report, poker strategy, etc) that is at least 300 words in length and post a link to it here!

Or

2. Create a new album and upload at least 10 photos (photos should be related to poker somehow) and post a link to it here.

- Members must also have a personal profile picture uploaded to be eligible.
- Members must also have their profile filled out - You must post in a in this thread with a link to your new blog post or photo album.

FOR MODS/COMMUNITY TEAM (1 Winner)

For the Mods/Community Team, you need but make a post here and let us know you want to participate. A small thanks for all the hard work and efforts you put into Poker Nations!

Tales for da noob-

One of the biggest mistakes i've ever made or seen in poker when playing hold'em is when a higher two pair appears in the draw. Meaning i have say A/2, cuz i'm a noob and play that anyway... then an ace, two, and two three's appear in draw... anyone with an ace will beat you because that's the rules. Took me several losses to realize this being that i'm and experience based player. So watch out noobs the droobs will get ya that are more seasoned by folding such hands and staying alive in the game while you get all happy and bust out.

Another big mistake is thinking any two pair is an all in situation, remember 18 cards plus the flop is dealt that's almost half the deck the chances of a pocket pair stinging your behind is ever present in every game. This largely due to the fact that people love to play pocket pairs. This is something that will likely never change and will continue to donkify and mystify us all. I myself will fold pockets 10 or lower when blinds are more than 5 percent of my chips or greater, and as the blinds go up i'll fold even more often on higher hands cuz flat out pocket pairs aren't the best hands usually.

Another tip i have and this is my most important tip for tourney players that are new. Watch out what you play. Playing any hand to see a flop is one thing when stakes are low, but you'll knock yourself out 90 percent of the time not folding lower hands late in a game. If you win it will just be temporary stack building, and will likely tick someone off that actually might of had a chance at winning the game. It's supposed to be a fun game so don't be in a hurry, patience usually prevails in hold'em tourneys. And the seasoned veterans you can learn a lot from by watching their betting strategies and hands they play in various situations. Take your time enjoy and most of all don't be a donk... donks lose 95 percent of the time playing lotto. As Kenny Rogers sung... "you gotta know when to holde'm, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away... etc...." some of the best poker strategy summarizing the qualities of a good poker player.

What do you mean by "personal Profile picture" ? My tiny little dog doesn't cut it? just wondering. Because I have tons of vegas pix from the last WSOP trip.

and what's the deadline BTW -- I'd be fun to play -- and I'd transfer it all back to the charity.

I only have a little over $26 on FTP.

LOL No Kash, but we live together, play poker together and have the candle company, but as friends --- I make a better friend than husband.

She's a pretty good poker player in her own right.

Made more money than me that trip.

We have been together for almost 8 years though -- longer than most marriages -- our friends joke about it.

I just want to say that poker has been more than just playing cards to me. About five years ago I started watching poker on TV and was hooked about a week later. I remember reading about the first lady of poker (linda johnson) and was inspired by her so much. I ran into a friend not too long after that who runs charity poker events and invited me to come and play. I showed up on a saturday night and played for the first time and was the only woman there. I was welcomed by most and kept thinking about Linda Johnson and how reading some of her bios gave me some confidence. After that night I watched it more and more on TV and read different articles about woman in poker. I played when I could and ejoyed it very much.
Last year my cousin was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb at the age of 22. Our family was devestated and I personally was numb. Tyler was an amazing person with a heart of gold. Two days after his dealth I contacted my friend who ran poker tournaments and asked him to help me honor my cousin and raise money for the soldiers in the way of a poker tournament. He was on board 100 percent and I then went to work to organize this tournament. I reached out to many businesses both locally and nation wide. I received such positive feedback and donations of items I was able to raffle. One of emails I sent out was responded with an open heart for support. It was Linda Johnson.I read her reply probably 20 times thinking this is a woman who is one of the reasons I play and now she is supporting such a great cause. I was able to get 109 players that night and had such an amazing night.I think to this day that if I was not inspired by the first lady of poker I would not be able to honor my cousin in such a way. I will never be able to express to her how much of inspiration and support she was for me in such a tragedy in my life. I ran my second annual Tyler J Trahan on August 28th and had 125 players and another amazing night. This year I was able to make donations to Wounded Warriors, USO and Poker Gives. Tyler will live on with an annual poker tournament and I have promised to finish what Tyler started to do. Thank you to all those who have served and still serving our country. And I thank Linda Johnson for being the first lady of poker.
So poker has become part of my everyday life and not just playing cards.

Hey Kellie,

Thanks so much for sharing that and sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin. I have friends and family members who have or are currently serving in the armed services and I've been fortunate that none have been lost. But always glad when we can help out great causes.

PokerGives supports not only the Paralyzed Vets and Intrepid Fallen Heroes, but also the Special Olympics and Step by Step Foundation, so there's a lot of great organizations receiving contributions from this and other events.

We've also been informed that Full Tilt will be promoting this event in their chatbox the day of the event, which should help drive more players and pros to particpate!
