Played the guys home game, had 13 players with a $15 buyin and one $10 rebuy (if you bust before the 250/500 level)
I never had to rebuy, won some flips for big pots but generally didn't play a ton of hands. When we made the final table the chip leader (by a large margin) was willing to chop the pot evenly when there was like 6 people left, but one guy refused, even after becoming the short stack)
Play was atrocious. People limp-calling with K6 offsuit, A3 offsuit, etc. What's funny is the guy running the game told me pre-game that the players in his game didn't play junk, didn't get their money in with garbage, and followed it up by telling me he plays poker on Facebook (LOL!)
So anyway, at the final table my raises and shoves were getting a lot of respect, since I was only showing down strong hands for the situations. Even had a guy limp-fold pocket 9's five-handed to my shove (I had AK suited and would've lost since we rabbit-hunted)
In my final hand blinds were 800/1600 and the button limped, the SB limped and I checked the BB with TJ offsuit. Flop was T93 rainbow and I led out for 3K and both guys called me. Turn was a 6 and it brought a diamond flush draw out there.
There was 1600x3 plus 3000x3 in the pot at this point (13,800 chips) and I had around 16,200 remaining. Checked to me, I shove, the button folds, the BB calls (I have him covered, he has 15,700 left in his stack) and he turns over T8 of diamonds. River is a red 7 (a heart) but he's hit the gutshot straight to cripple me and I bust out the next hand.
Disappointed in the result since winning that pot puts me up around 45K (we only started with 5K and a few people rebought, but I did not) so I'd be a monster favorite against this lineup to take it down.
There was a lot of loosey-goosey rules, which I expected. Guys outwardly colluding with one another (two buddies in a blind vs blind agreeing before the flop to just check it down, guys encouraging someone else to check it down when another player is all-in, etc)
Despite my and another players best efforts to explain why this was wrong, they saw nothing wrong with their way of playing and it was their home game so meh. I went into it expecting a lot of ******edness. There was about $250 in the prize pool, so wouldn't have minded splitting it up five ways given I only spent $15.
I had a fun time, good group of guys to hang around with, but just awful poker all around. My buddy Kevin got super unlucky. He got his money in good like three different times against this one kid and kept getting outdrawn. one time a guy limped AK and Kevin had KK and raised and the kid just smooth-called, then he shoves a Q-high flop and Kevin makes an easy call........turn Ace.....river Ace. So brutal. The only time Kevin won is when he got his money in behind and hit the river :P
