Left Connecticut for New Jersey at 7am, took over 4 hours to reach Atlantic City. Then I didn't get out of the trade show setup until after 4pm.
Checked into Harrah's, had a meal at the Reflections Cafe (kind of like the Veranda Cafe at Foxwoods). The meal was meh. HUGE portions (more than I wanted) but wasn't very good. I got breakfast cause hey, who doesn't love breakfast at any hour?
The eggs were runny (i.e. over-easy rather than over-medium like I ordered) and after sending them back they returned still somewhat over-easy. The bacon was chewy and not in a good way. The homefries dry and bland. The toast was ok (yaaaah, they aren't so bad they can screw up toast!)
The waiter wasn't all that attentive, but I suppose my company was paying for it so I can't complain too much.
Afterwards I hit the poker room, the tournament was already in full swing (I think 4 tables, so about 40 players ponying up $100 each)
I skipped this, was pretty beat from the long day and didn't feel like playing until 2am when I had the trade show at 9am.
Hopped into a 1/2 NL cash game, bought in for $100. A much older crowd at my table, at the ripe old age of 34 I was the youngest player! Although earlier in the day when I scoped the room it was a younger crowd and there was even some decent looking chicks!
Harrahs' shares a bad beat jackpot with four other properties. I was told by another player that out of the 181 grand the loser would get something like 54 grand, the winner 36 grand and the rest would be split between ALL the players in all 4 poker rooms (provided they were actively dealt into hands and not sitting out)
Harrah's also has a high-hand jackpot, but someone had already made a King-high royal flush and I was told it was only comp dollars, although something like $200 of them.
My second hand I picked up AK suited in the SB and most everyone limped and one lady raised to $6 on the button. I reraised to $30 (remember I only sat with $100) and everyone folded to her, she called.
Flop was A83 rainbow and I shoved the rest of my stack in. She considered for awhile but eventually laid it down. Later I asked her if she had 10's and she told me yes. I'm pretty sure I was correct and she was honest about it, but hey, you never know with the elderly :P
So my game was starting off nice. The next hand I played I picked up AQ and raised first-in from MP to $6. EVERYONE behind me called and the flop was J-high. I check-folded when there was a bet and a call and didn't regret it.
The next hand of significance for me I picked up pocket Jacks in early position and raised to $6 (oh yeah, forgot to mention whenever I've played at Foxwoods the standard raise is generally anywhere from $10-15 preflop, so this was a change of pace)
I got a couple of callers and a 9-high flop. Checked to me, I lead for $15 and get one caller who has position on me. Fortunately it's an elderly gentleman I will affectionally refer to as "the mouth-breather" since he constantly had his mouth wide open in this dopey "I'm trying to catch brain cells" look.
Also fortunately, he was the classic calling station. Super passive until he hit a hand. We saw a turn card, the 3 of clubs. I led for $25 and he called again (there was a potential diamond draw on the flop of 269) The river was another 3 and I checked, he checked and I won the pot.
I might have been able to go for a value bet, but at the time I didn't know a ton about this guys play, and started picking it up shortly thereafter. So when I checked it was for pot control somewhat, but mostly hoping I might induce a bluff (or value-bet from a weaker hand if he thought I had AK)
Only other hand I can think of I raised in EP with KQ of diamonds, got three callers, led on a KJx flop and took it down there.
I was up around $100 at one point but left up a respectable $83 in profit for the few hours I played, and was happy with my results.
I hit a few slot machines and was amazed at how expensive they were. The nickel slots generally cost you $1 per spin if you wanted to play all lines (i.e. 20 of them) and it was difficult to locate a slot where you could play all lines for a quarter.
I finally got to sit at a Lord of the Rings machine, usually they're full at Foxwoods. Little did I realize the minimum bet was $2 per spin. They try to keep you hooked by allowing you to create an account that tracks your progress in the game (you progress various distances and achieve certain bonuses over time)
I left that machine with $10 of the $35 I had put in, but also cleared about $16 in comps I believe.
Then my sweet tooth started acting up, I hadn't had any dessert all day and hit Ben & Jerries. The place was packed (this is at 10:15pm at night!) and the prices were ridiculous.
A small cone was over $4, the sundaes were $6.96! I guess someone forgot to tell them about the economy?
Anyway, I'm not caring about the price, I now have comp points, huzzah!
Then when I'm being cashed out I'm hit with a double-whammy. First, your points are counted 2 for 1 when making a purchase here (i.e. that $6.96 will cost me roughly $14 in comp points!) and..........I don't have any comp points!
It takes awhile for them to land in your account, so they weren't ready to be used yet, bogus!
I was surprised by the property at Harrahs. I have been to the one in Vegas and it was pretty run-down looking (the property for the most part, we stayed in a Jr. Suite and that was nice and updated)
Harrah's in AC was very clean and nice looking (my co-worker mentioned it used to have a western theme and be very dark and dingy, so he said it's changed a lot since he's been here)
I wasn't able to snag any photos in the poker room, no cameras allowed :(
But it's a nice open room with a good amount of tables (I'd wager over the 24 I had been told it had, didn't really count)
It wasn't full by any means, but I'd say there was 80-100 or so people playing there. Only 1/2 NL hold em or 2/4 limit hold em from what I saw, plus the tourney.
Staff was friendly all-around and so far I'm enjoying my trip despite a few things I didn't care for.

When playing the Lord of the Rings slot did they think you were a hobbit?
Yes, the fat one
