Inexperienced Player Learns a Costly Lesson

Playing a 1/3 NL Holdem game at the HollyWood Casino in Lawrenceburg Indiana, I had a young man sit next to me in seat 9, I was in seat 8.  Yesterday was his 21st birthday and this was his very first poker game in a LIVE casino.  He asked me question after question about proper live play and proceedures.  As the game went on it became a very tight game and I had decided that I would have to show a monster bluff if I ever wanted to get paid off when I made a hand.  So I waited until I was the button and I happened to be dealt 72 off.  I raised to $12 pre-flop getting 2 callers, the kid, and a tight player in seat 4.  The flop came K 10 7.  I have bottom pair, hardly anything to be proud of.  Everyone checked to me and I bet the pot, $36.  The kid called and the tight player in seaqt 4 folded.  The turn brought a 3, changes nothing as far as I can tell and the kid checks to me.  I bet $48 and he says, do you have pocket Kings..... Now I am thinking, this kid has pocket tens and has flopped a set of tens and won't be able to get away from them.   So the river comes another brick, he checks.  I have $84 invested in the hand.  I know I can't win cause he won't fold, I can see that.  So I turn over my hand place my fingertips on my cards and show that I have 7 2 and explain that I was trying to be cute with 7 2.  I figure I might as well get credit for the loose play and get something for the money I invested in the play.

The kid starts bouncing in his seat... I can see him bouncing up and down as he says, Good, I have Kings.  No sooner had he finished his statement he then proceeds to muck his cards.  He was so used to the internet delivering the pot to the best hand on showdown, that he actually forgot to show his cards.  The dealer gathered his cards into the muck and I got quiet and pressed a bit harder with my fingertips protecting my cards even more.  They just became more valuable.....  I knew where this was going.  The dealer started pushing me the pot.  The kid pops up and says.. "What the  #@&* ?  I had him beat"  To which the dealers proceeded to say.  "I'm sorry sir, you don't have any cards"

I actually reraised there to create a sidepot so I could shove the flop and protect my hand while creating a sidepot to take down in case he folded to my flop bet and the all in happened to hit. The reason I didn't shove the flop with AA is because I didn't want 3 players seeing all 5 cards when I have aces wired. The Min riase I made was another 795 I think. But I can't complain.. over time bad calls like that will pay you off in the long run. Good Game Anthiny
